I wouldn't say college is necessarily that hard. However, a typical AP course gets ~250 hours of class time... a typical college course has to cover that same material in 50 hours. AP classes are an important part of that story, especially at elite universities. Honestly it really depends. There are some exceptions- like its much easier to get a passing grade on the AP Calc BC exam than to pass Calc 2 at many universities.
